Kickoff Fall with a Trip to Sweetfields Farms

It’s that time of year again – the temperature has dropped below 90 and we are bringing out the pumpkins and embracing Fall.  An excellent way to get into the Fall spirit is with a trip to  Sweetfields Farm.  The farm, located at 17250 Benes Roush Rd. Masaryktown, Fl 34604, is only about a 45 minute drive from Tampa.  I’ve wanted to check out the Fall Maze for several years now and was able to take my son there this past weekend.

When we arrived, we were greeted by smiling facing that led us onto the farm.  Once inside, I was overwhelmed with all the different activities they had to offer.  We went just expecting to walk through the corn maze and head home.  We ended up spending a few hours on the farm exploring.

On our way in, we grabbed some fresh lemonade and water for the maze from one of the many vendors.  Then we headed over to watch a pig race.  My son really enjoyed cheering the piggies on.

From there, we made our way over to the corn maze.  We were met at the entrance to the maze by a couple of very friendly ladies who explained the rules and how the maze worked.  You’re provided with a sheet of paper with 8 separate questions and answers.  At 8 different forks in the maze, you answer the corresponding question from your paper.  Your answer tells you which way to go: A) turn right, B) turn left.  Answer wrong and you’ll find yourself at a dead end.

But don’t worry – there’s helpers (and emergency exits) along the way!

After making it through the maze, we went back out to the farm to visit the cow, say hi to the chickens and even fed a goat.

We ended our trip with a stop at the pumpkin patch and we grabbed some kettle corn for the road.  We decided to save the hay ride for another trip.  There were so many kid-friendly activities you could really make a day of it.

The Fall Maze at Sweetfields Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends thru November 3.  Admission is $4.50 + tax for children 3 – 11 and $8.50 + tax for 12 and older.  Children under 3 are free.  Credit/debit cards were accepted for admissions and in the barn for purchases of produce, but bring cash for the vendors.
