Celebrating International Women’s Day in Tampa Bay

International Women’s Day is March 8^th. Often it’s marked by celebrations of women and bringing global awareness to gender parity in the workplace. Check out our favorite picks for celebrating International Women’s Day in Tampa Bay.

It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness about the accomplishments of women past, present, and future. By definition from the IWD Organization, International Women’s Day is “a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.”

Beyond spending a morning or afternoon with professional women celebrating International Women’s Day, there are other ways to celebrate even if in your own home.

Having young children, especially a daughter, IWD has even greater meaning. In the last year as my little girl’s personality is starting to shine bright and unveil to the world, I think a lot about how she views the world and how the world views her. I think (and many times overthink) about the example I am setting for her.

I hope the world will evolve so that she has equal, fair and plentiful opportunities. That she can step into the professional world without judgment because she’s a woman. I hope she works in a world where her pay is equal compared to her male counterpart.

As for my son, oh yes, I am also raising a young man. This juxtapose parenting keeps me balanced in my thinking too. For him someday, I hope he’s the man making decisions that are fair for all people.

While I may struggle to explain to a 5 and 8-year-old all the challenges of being a woman, for now, we get to spend time reading and celebrating all of the fantastic accomplishments of women. If you’re looking to educate your kids, check out these books.

Whether it’s a small group of friends or a large-scale event, International Women’s Day in Tampa Bay is a special day to bring women together to celebrate achievements and inspire future potential.
