Inspirational Mom: Starting Your Own Business

This week’s inspirational mom is Leslie Burket–mom of two, Trent 6, and Lila 4, and wife of  Tom. She took an idea she had for her own children and turned it into a successful business. We chatted with her about her inspiration and how she became a businesswoman.

Can you explain to our readers…what are Lilapops?

Lilapops are all natural cough drop lollipops. They have honey and marshmallow root to naturally soothe throats.

How did you go from the point of “this is a good idea” to “I want to take this further and market it?”

In about 30 minutes! We were on a family road trip with two coughing little ones in the back seat. I dreamed of a way to naturally soothe my babes’ throats and cheer them up and thought a cough drop lollipop was genius. My husband agreed and we started making phone calls while traveling on the road.

Did you ever expect that you’d run your own company?

I am a Kindergarten teacher as well, so the idea of creating and managing is something I’ve always enjoyed.

What advice can you give moms who might be interested in starting their own business?

Surround yourself with a good team. My husband, family, and friends have all been critical to the start and success of Lilapops. I am very blessed to have their support, advice, and encouragement.

Do you have plans for any other natural products?

We have big plans at Lilapops! and sealed lips! Stay tuned…
