Valentine’s Day is sneaking upon us! Whether you would like to celebrate the day of love with your kids or you just don’t have a babysitter available, finding kid-friendly restaurants in Tampa Bay is a must. When dinner and a date involve kids, my favorite attempt at having a good experience is finding a restaurant located near a play area. This way as you let your kids get their energy out and only have a quick walk over to the restaurant. Now the kids are tuckered out enough to ACTUALLY sit and eat their meal. Luckily, all you have to do it pick one and make the reservation!
Tampa Pizza Company
(813)463-1600
777 N Ashley Dr. C, Tampa 33602
All the menu items are made with simple and fresh ingredients! They also have gluten-free and dairy-free options to fit the dietary needs of every family member. Every time we go, my four-year-old son, insists we get the cheesy garlic breadsticks with the pesto infused ranch sauce. I believe it’s the only time he will voluntarily eat something that’s green! Besides the traditional marinara pizza, they make a killer backyard BBQ and delicious white pizza. Even with pizza in the name, they offer other items like sandwiches, wraps, and salads the size of your face! They are a block away from Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. This has a large playground and is a stop along the Tampa Riverwalk. There is also another Tampa Pizza Company location: 9556 W Linebaugh Ave Westchase 33626 or call (813) 792-1516

Ulele
(813) 999-4952
1810 North Highland Ave Tampa 33602
This restaurant is located right on the Hillsborough River with a nice breeze and beautiful scenic view. For the adults, they have a wide selection of wines and local beers. Seafood dominates their menu with stuffed shrimp, Gouda grouper and Mahi Trevino. However, they still have a great selection of non-seafood options like steak and chicken. My personal favorite is one of their vegetarian offers, Three Sisters Stuffed Portabello-yum! The kids’ menu has the basics with mac and cheese and chicken strips but each meal comes with a scoop of their handmade ice cream to make any kid’s tummy happy. A quick walk along the Hillsborough River will bring you to Water Works Park which includes a playground, a climbing rope tower and a water play area.

Dinner dates are nice but during a busy time like Valentine’s Day, it might be difficult to get a reservation. The solution? Brunch date! Johnny Grits serves up some amazing breakfast dishes like Fried Chicken Benedict, bacon stuffed pancakes, banana nut bread french toast and of course, shrimp and grits. The lunch menu has a variety of sandwiches and burgers, toss an extra fried green tomato on that burger-you won’t regret it! The kids’ meal have the basics kids items however, the ingredients are top quality and fresh that my son catches me taking bites of his sweet potato fries and mac and cheese! We never visit without ordering mac and cheese, no matter the time of day.
This location is about a two-block walk from Sims Park. It’s a newly renovated playground that is large, shaded and appropriate for all ages. Nearby there is an open field for playing tag and a walkway along the Cotee River with benches and large trees.
