Tampa Bay moms, whether you have booked your kids for the summer or you’re still looking for summer opportunities, you need to do yourself a favor and look into CAMP IDS at Corbett Prep!!
My daughters and I recently toured CAMP IDS at Corbett Prep, and WOW! My 17-year-old daughter got back in the car and the first thing out of her mouth was, “I wish I was young enough to go!” and started texting her friends about everything she just saw and learned. Then both my daughters spent the rest of the day telling everyone about this incredible camp, and the conversation always began with, “Oh My Gosh…” followed by a detailed account of CAMP IDS and the campus. If it has the teenage/tween stamp of approval, you KNOW young children will be fascinated!
CAMP IDS is located just off Dale Mabry in Carrollwood, and is nestled throughout Corbett Prep’s beautiful, cypress-covered lakeside campus. Serving over 300 kids a week, there are over 60 different camps!!! Yes, I said over 60! One thing that really struck me was the wide VARIETY of camps from which to choose. Most the camps are a half day, so your child could attend camp all day and experience 2 completely different camps with lunch in between. What do I mean by that? The possibilities are endless!
You could choose an academic camp for your child in the morning and an athletic camp in the afternoon…that way mom can choose Junior Scientists and Johnny can choose Warrior Games, haha. Or you could choose to do visual arts in the morning and foreign language/cuisine in the afternoon.
We visited a number of different camps and saw everything from CSI, Cooking, Computers for Kids, Earth-Friendly Art, Basketball, Cheerleading, Soccer, Digital Movie Making, and Broadcasting, to Musical Theater…just to name a few. One of the cutest camps was the K-2 kids in La Bonne Cuisine learning the French language and cooking French cuisine in their little kitchen. What an amazing summer experience all these kids are having! The majority of these camps are for grades K-8. For the PreK3- PreK4, there is an all day camp available, and they will also be offering an academic camp at the end of the July called Book Worms in the Garden and Fun with Numbers. There are two sessions available: July 21-25 and July 28- August 1.
As we walked around under the shade of the cypress trees and past roaming wild peacocks, I felt like a mesmerized child myself with all the colorful and child-friendly buildings connected by wood plank walkways and bridges. The campus and staff are extremely welcoming, and you immediately sense the safety and security. Each camp is led by a teacher with multiple counselors who are alumni of Corbett and have gone through extensive camp counselor training required by the Headmaster. It says a lot that these high school and college students enjoyed their experience at Camp IDS so much, and think so highly of the school that they want to come back during their summer to be a counselor!
You can visit the website at www.corbettprep.com, and I would also encourage you to swing by the campus and pick up a Camp IDS catalog in the Main Office and meet the friendly staff. The campus is easy to locate and it’s always nice to visit in person and see where you are considering sending your child, versus trying to get a feel for a place and people online.
