7 Simple Tips for Organizing an Easter Egg Hunt on a Budget

Easter is quickly approaching. It’s time to start planning a fun egg hunt for the children. This is a great activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. Follow these tips to host a fun Easter egg hunt that will minimize the cost and maximize time spent with your family and friends.

1. HOST THE EGG HUNT AT HOME

It’s free and you don’t have to spend a ton of money. If you plan to have the Easter egg hunt outdoors, remember to have a backup plan. The weather in Florida is crazy around this time of the year. The weather is cool right now but it may rain or become unbearably hot. If you’re hosting inside, be sure to spread the eggs over several rooms. You can have one area for toddlers and preschoolers and another room for older kids. Make sure to remove furniture that might get in the way or be potentially dangerous. Whether the event is inside or outdoors, communicate the boundary to the parents who are helping as well as the children participating. This will prevent children from wandering too far away while searching for eggs. Have fun but safety is important.

2. ASK THE PARENTS TO BRING EASTER BASKETS FOR THEIR KID(S).

Have a few extra baskets on hand in case someone forgets. You can pick them up from your local party or dollar store. Unless, you’re like me and purchased a large amount last year when they were on clearance. I must admit, I got a bit carried away but you can’t beat 90% off Easter items.

3. ASK ONE OF THE GUESTS TO BE A DESIGNATED PHOTOGRAPHER.

You don’t have to hire a professional to take pictures for the Easter egg hunt. Ask one of the parents or a family member to take some pictures with their phone. Get photos of the kids searching for eggs as well as random shots throughout the event. Make sure to take a group photo before the hunt begins.

4. USE PLASTIC EGGS AND FILL THEM WITH TREATS AND PRIZES

Purchasing real or wooden eggs can get expensive. You can find refillable eggs for affordable prices. I purchased a lot of my eggs when they were on sale last year at Target. You can also recycle the plastic eggs after the children open them for next year. Fill the eggs with small items like stickers, temporary tattoos, bouncing balls, coins as well as candy.

5. HAVE A POTLUCK-STYLE BUFFET.

Ask everyone to bring an Easter dish of their choice. This will reduce the amount of money spent on groceries and less time stressing in the kitchen.

6. CREATE DIFFERENT “HEATS” BASED ON THEIR AGE.

Allow the younger children to go first to find eggs in obvious spots. Release the older kids about 15 minutes later to collect the remaining eggs. If you have a large property, create zones for the children to hunt for eggs based on their age.

7. HAVE A CRAFT TABLE FOR THE OLDER KIDS.

You only need a few crafts for children who either don’t want to hunt for eggs or would like something fun to do afterwards. There’s no need to spend a lot of money.
